International fund "FOUR PAWS" supported Municipal Enterprise "Lev" in neutering of 125 stray cats

A 10-day campaign, directed at humane management of stray cats population, took place in Lviv. A veterinarian from the International fund "FOUR PAWS" neutered and immunized stray cats against rabies free of charge. 125 male and female cats were brought to LME "Lev" by caregivers and concerned city residents. All of them were neutered during those 10 days.

"Over recent years, the number of stray dogs in Lviv is constantly diminishing due to the program of capture → neutering → immunization → adoption". Nevertheless, LME "Lev" team members and caregivers notice an increase in stray cats number. To change the situation, we use the method of neutering of adult male and female stray cats. Besides, we try to find homes for socialized animals. We also asked the International fund "FOUR PAWS" for assistance in humane management of purrers population, since the Fund veterinarians have a great experience in such campaigns. Despite that fact that the financial year tends to end, the Fund agreed to help, considering good professional practice with LME "Lev". So we succeed in moving from the strategy of stray cats handling into an active phase this year," told Oksana Koshak, Director of LME "Lev".

The Fund veterinarian Oleksandra Arsirova worked in the First Municipal Veterinary Clinic of the Municipal Enterprise "Lev" for 10 days. She maintained 125 surgical operations for stray cats, brought by the city residents. "This campaign not only saved so much time, but also saved UAH 90,000 from the municipal budget. Moreover, our specialists had a great opportunity to be taught the methods of neutering used by the Fund "FOUR PAWS". It is very important for us, that Oleksandra highly evaluated the qualification of LME "Lev" veterinarians. She was also impressed with cleanliness standards at our enterprise," added Oksana Koshak.

All neutered cats were also immunized against rabies and got a tattoo in an ear: an identifier sign of neutered animals.

Oleksandra Arsirova has been working as a veterinarian in the Fund "FOUR PAWS" for 2 years already. Earlier she cooperated with the Fund as a volunteer. She performed more than 2 thousand surgeries.
